Gene:
I wanted to propose to Sharon on our 2 year anniversary, so I planned a trip to San Diego for us to get away. Of course I just told her that the trip was an anniversary celebration. I made a scrapbook for her with 24 pages, one page for each month we had been together. On each page of the scrapbook, I had a picture from around that time, and wrote a paragraph about something new I learned about her that month, and a reason why I wanted to be with her. My plan was simple - find a cliff along Sunset Cliffs Boulevard, watch the sunset over the ocean, give her my book, and propose to her as the sun was going down. Things didn't start smoothly though, as our flight was cancelled on Friday, and we ran into some more travel mishaps. We didn't end up in San Diego until Saturday noon but things finally started looking up. We had a reservation at the Hotel del Coronado, a gorgeous, historic hotel on Coronado Island. We spent the rest of the afternoon hanging around La Jolla, enjoying the beautiful weather and the beautiful city. Finally, it was show time - we headed out to Sunset Cliffs, where we found our own cliff, just as the sun was setting. I gave her my scrapbook, and let Sharon read it...she was in tears by the third page. After the sunset, I got down on one knee and asked her to make me the most blessed guy in the world. I was scared out of my mind, but she said yes! So what started out as a horrible weekend, turned into the most special moment in my entire life :)
Sharon:
Gene took me to San Diego because it's his favorite place to visit in all the U.S. I thought we were strictly celebrating our 2 year anniversary, and Gene was COMPLETELY normal on the ENTIRE trip. He made it soooo relaxing and enjoyable where there was no rush or pressure to do anything or go anywhere. It wasn't until that very moment at Sunset Cliff when his composure suddenly changed. His proposal completely blew me away, and in a sense, our weekend get-away turned out so much better than Gene and I had hoped for. It was in the moments where we prayed on the trip, and God answered so quickly and amazingly, that made us know in our hearts that God is looking out for us and is rooting for us to be together. <3
